In 2012, an offshore oil production and services client turned to Applied Ultrasonics for a third time. With their Phoenix project development expanding to bring production from the Boris field on line, the client needed to add flow lines to their floating production and offloading vessel. The pipe in the assembly was a combination of super duplex stainless steel (UNS S31803) and carbon steel (A106 schedule 80). Wanting to ensure they had the strongest connections possible on the flow lines, the client chose UIT as a post weld treatment to relieve the tensile residual stress and improve the fatigue strength and life. Applied Ultrasonics deployed crews to the fabrication facility in New Iberia, LA and treated over 70 welded pipe connections in only five days’ time.
